Harry Potter World
We decided a long time ago that when our kiddos turn 13, we would take them somewhere fun - just mom, dad and the birthday kid. Turning 13 is a big deal - a milestone! Let's celebrate it!
Caedmon loves amusement parks and Harry Potter - so naturally we took him to Universal Studios & Harry Potter World. I may or may not have been more excited than he was. We surprised him the morning we left - he had no clue about any of this. And he took it like a classic teenager...didn't act surprised AT ALL, just said "okay cool" and walked away. I'm like REALLY. I had to tell him again cause I didn't think he understood what I said the first time around. Same reaction. Did I mention how much fun 13 year olds are?
The last time we were at Universal Studios, we had 6 kids in tow. This was a much more relaxing experience. Having only 1 kid with you who can wipe his own butt, brush his own teeth, eats grown-up food and basically has adult conversations with you is actually fun. The only thing that made me want to cringe was that Keith and Caedmon forced me to ride all the roller coasters. I mean, i'm not 18 anymore. 35 and I've had 5 babies - that does something to a girls ability to ride a coaster. I felt like I was going to throw up on each ride, but I pushed through cause BIRTHDAY TRIP. I didn't want to ruin it with a little (or a lot) of puke.
We stayed for 2 days from park opening to park close both days and walked about 20 miles. Not even kidding. My muscles still ache and the trip was 2 weeks ago.
But, MEMORIES were made. And that's the most important. We got to spend good quality time with our firstborn...who quickly became the oldest soon after he was born...then the oldest again, and again and again...and so on. You get the point, he's never been an only child. And the kid is fun to be around. Sometimes a pain in the hiney, yes (13 is so fun)...but he's a great kid. Our time was so fun and I'm pretty sure he's back to thinking his parents are cool again. Hoping that lasts for at least a few more weeks. ;)
